Cabin located just 300 feet from the Courtois Creek on a low bluff overlooking the gravel beach and crystal clear water. Morning coffee on the sun porch next to the wood stove in the cold months or with the full height windows wide to the woods is an experience that releases the tensions that are best left at home. Stairs from the cabin, the deck and "cool rocks" fire pit take you down to soak swim or fish in the clear waters of Courtois Creek. Please take note that there is a private club shelter and picnic area at the river that is not available with this rental. There is a location next to the entry road to launch your personal boat , or you can arrange to rent from Bass Resort for a float or transport your boat back by them. The cabin has the privacy of being one of only two cabins on the road, but only three miles to Berryman State Park and the Ozark Trail. A Bar-b Que on the deck or ordering a pizza from the Berrryman General Store down the road satisfy the hunger developed after an active day on the river or trails. Some other activities in the area include golf, horseback riding, hiking, biking, antique shopping, wineries, country music shows and of course all the activities the rivers have to offer. A 17 foot long sun porch stretches across the back of the cabin where firewood for the wood stove located there is ready for your use and a sleeping loft with a full size bed. The main sleeping area has a queen sized bed that has a memory top mattress and a stereo system with a wide range of music to choose from. A screened porch that runs along the side closest to the bar-b-que deck and fire pit is a dining location alternative. This is a unique stone house that was owed by a famed civil war bushwhacker. While the house was recently restored it still beams with old time charm. The home sleeps 12 people comfortably and has two full kitchens and two full baths. It is nestled in the middle of a 300 acre working cattle farm just minutes from restaurants, wineries, and activities. Built in 1832, the house was the childhood home of Sam Hildebrand, who was an infamous civil war guerrilla fighter. Come walk the same fields and sleep in the same place as one of Southeast Missouri’s biggest outlaws.

Griffinwood’s cottage is a 3 bedroom 1600 square foot house with 1 and 1/2 baths. You will have the cottage , lake and the 25 acres all to yourself. The cottage was built by owners Larry and Gina Griffin in 2017on the shore of their 1.5 acre private lake. The cottage features include large open spaces, a full modern kitchen, plenty of dining seating and a comfortable living area. The three bedrooms are large and comfortably decorated. Each bedroom has a full size closet and dressers to use. A game night table / area with some games available and electric dartboard makes for a fun family and friends evening. The cottage has a 40 ft covered front porch right at lakeside with ceiling fans and outdoor furniture to enjoy. Our beautiful private lake is 1.5 acres and stocked with Catfish, Bass and Bluegill. You can fish our lake from the banks or use the row boat to go after some bass. Use our two kayaks to paddle around in, or take a ride in the four person paddle boat. Besides the large covered front porch the cottage also features two large open decks with picnic table, chairs and a two person swing overlooking the lake. The long deck is perfect for a game of “Corn Hole” there is a set of custom game boards and bags for play. Great decks for star watching the night sky! We have seen so much wildlife here. Numerous bird species , even Bald Eagles. There are binoculars for use to check out the wildlife. Our property is 25 acres of mostly Ozark forest with hiking trails through-out. We have a large stone fire ring with log seating right next to the lake. Please do not bring firewood from outside sources. There is plenty of firewood on the ground here. Our neighbor Red Moose Winery is just about one mile away and Griffinwoods is just a short drive to several of Missouri's best floating rivers and streams. Also close by is trout fishing at Maramec Spring Park, several other Missouri State Parks in the area. Nearby towns are Steelville, Mo considered the “Floating Capital” of Missouri. Steelville also has plenty of neat shops, grocery, ice cream, restaurants, bait/liquor stores. Cuba, Mo. Route 66 Mural City. Fantastic town to explore. Located on K Hwy, this rental is in a prime location. You are literally in the middle of nowhere and everywhere! If you’re looking to just kick back and relax, you can do so on the front porch while sipping ice tea and counting cars. The large yard is great for playing games, hanging out by the fire pit, or having a picnic and enjoying some tasty BBQ on the charcoal grill. (BYO Charcoal) You will be 2 miles from Annapolis in case you need some supplies and 2 miles from K Bridge, so if you’re floating Black River with Jeff’s Canoe Rental, you don’t have to get up early! If you’re interested in more than just being a river rat, this rental makes a great central location for taking day trips. For lake lovers, Clearwater Lake is only 30 minutes away. And within 30 minutes to an hour drive, you could visit Elephant Rocks, Johnson Shut-Ins, Sam-A-Baker Park, Round Springs, Allee Springs, Rocky Falls, Taum Sauk (the highest point in Missouri), or hike any number of trails. We are also right across the road from Black River Traditions, where you can schedule horse trail rides (call ahead). So with so much to do, boredom is not an option!

The 3500SF home sleeps 22 and provides an upper-level and a lower level each with its own kitchen, laundry room, dining and living areas, and outdoor sitting space. Nestled beautifully in the woods, a private 1/2-mile gravel driveway takes you past the spacious house and down to a large and beautiful gravel bar on the Meramec River. Guests can enjoy an afternoon of fishing or relaxing on the gravel bar and later sit by a bonfire or watch the sunset from more than 500 sq. ft. of covered deck. Free firewood provided to guests (for bonfire area only). The upper level has a Master Suite with a king-sized bed, Jacuzzi tub, separate shower and double vanity. Two additional bedrooms on the upper level are furnished with queen-sized beds and share a full bathroom. The lower-level has one bedroom with a king-sized bed, while the three remaining bedrooms are furnished with queen-sized beds. There are two full bathrooms on the lower level. The upper level living room has two queen-sized sofa sleepers while the lover level living room has one queen-sized sofa sleeper and a daybed with two twin-size mattresses. All bedroom mattresses are new, Dr. Greene Sleep System Hadley Acres Super Pillow Top. The house is also furnished with linens & bath towels. The upper level dining area has a 10' wooden table while the lower level dining area has an 8' wooden table. Both kitchens are fully equipped with stainless steel appliances, granite countertops, deep sinks, gas cooktop stoves, dishwashers and refrigerators (with water and ice dispensers). Both kitchens are also fully equipped with pots/pans, dishes, glassware, cooking utensils, knife sets, cutting boards, outdoor grilling tools, casserole dishes, serving bowls, crockpots, blenders, mixers, coffee pots, dishtowels/washcloths, fire extinguishers, and first-aid kits. Both the upper-level kitchen and lower level kitchen have walk-in pantries to store your food and drink. The large upper-level living room has a stone fireplace with gas log insert and is furnished with a 55" UHD TV, while the lower-level has a 43" HD TV. Both TVs offer DIRECT TV's CHOICE 150+ channel package. High speed wireless Internet is provided and telephones are located on each level (for incoming calls & local outgoing calls). HE front-loaded washers and dryers are on both levels with detergent & softener provided. The upper level laundry room also has a sink and folding counter. Other home features include a semi-private outdoor hot shower, separate thermostats for each level, an insulated floor for sound, two Weber charcoal grills (on the back patio) and over 500 SF of covered deck off the upper level with 4 rockers, a 10' wooden table, and 3 ceiling fans. The large patio at the lower level has a 5' porch swing, an 8' picnic table, and 3 ceiling fans. Adjacent to the back porch, and overlooking the back deck, is a large gravel area with many chairs that circle around a large fire-pit lined with boulders. A reasonable amount of firewood to be used exclusively for the fire-pit is provided complimentary to our guests. A corn-hole (bags) game is provided on the back patio. There is a tree swing located off the side of the house. There is ample parking located both in front (for upper level entry) and at the side-rear of the house (for lower level entry). All seven bedrooms have an egress window, separate closet, fan, nightstand and suitcase stand. Spend the day away and enjoy nearby attractions such as local wineries, antique stores, Meramec Music Theatre, Wildwood Springs Concert Series, Onondaga Cave, Meramec Springs or plan a float trip with one of Steelville's local floating outfitters. Some of the local outfitters can start you where you will float past our property and adjacent gravel bar during your float, so you can have lunch pre-positioned. Holiday weekends have a 3 night minimum stay. No camping, tents or campers are allowed on property. 22 people is the maximum number of guests allowed. The camper has a kitchenette with full-sized fridge, microwave, coffee pot, toaster, blender, coffee service, sink, and dining space. We are an unplugged place with no cell phone service or wifi, but your cell phone will work at the top of the hill (2 min drive) and both cell service and internet are available in Annapolis (5 min drive). We homesteaded this eight acres in the forest a few years ago, and have three privately situated rentals in the woods: The Happy Camper, Cabin on the Creek, and Creekside Cottage. Each are hidden in the trees, however you might or might not see another human during your stay. You have 50+ yards of creek to yourself, signs to show path and your designated area of the creek. There are 100’s of nature-lover things to do in this area within a few minute’s drive: Mina Sauk Falls, Taum Sauk State Park, Clearwater Lake, K Bridge Recreation Area at Black River Annapolis, Big Creek, Black River, Marble Creek State Park, Sam A. If you want to float or kayak Black River, we have a local outfitter, Jeff's Canoe Rental, just ten minutes from The Happy Camper, they are open in the summer. In winter, you'll need to bring your own kayak. In every season, The Happy Camper is a super cool, fun place to stay.

Plus a day trip through the area will provide over ten great antique stores/malls/flea markets. Or over ten nearby wineries. But, you can also easily spend your days happily in solitude and never leave the cabin. Soak your feet in the creek just off the porch, read an entire book, enjoy a campfire.
